...doesn't even really read like queue. So why?

Every time I see it I feel a strong urge to do something violent to a pot plant.

For this reason we are a pot plant free house.

Is what Manuel says.

LoneHydrangea · 03/08/2024 13:12

This drives me more crazy than any of the awful spelling I see on here. How can anyone think it spells queue?

BionicBadger · 03/08/2024 13:14

Is what I say when in a state of confusion (my natural stance)

Because when you are confused thinking about standing in a nice orderly queue helps sort things out in your head?

Perhaps they mean cue? Although I always mentally say it in Manuel's voice 😂

BionicBadger · 03/08/2024 13:17

It’s the Manuel influence I’m afraid!

MrsMitford3 · 03/08/2024 13:18

It really really annoys me.

I think people often use it when they mean cue which somehow makes it worse.

Waitingfordoggo · 03/08/2024 13:20

Queue is a bit of a strange word, visually, so I suppose it’s a common mistake for people whose spelling isn’t great.

I get a bit vexed with the use of ‘que’ or ‘queue’ when people mean ‘cue’.

GoogleWhacked · 03/08/2024 13:20

It irritates me even more when used in place of cue 😒 .

Waitingfordoggo · 03/08/2024 13:21

Bit of a tangent (sorry) but I am seeing ‘phased’ instead of ‘fazed’ absolutely everywhere at the moment but especially on MN 😩

Now that I sort of understand. They both sound exactly the same and are the same length.

My spelling isn't brilliant but I sort of know how long and what shape a word needs to be having read them over the years .. I just can't fathom how this is so wrong. It's like writing Poto instead of Potato.

I saw two people writing on FB about their dogs ‘malting’ 🙄.

Waitingfordoggo · 03/08/2024 13:31

@IFollowRivers See I can understand people who aren’t great at spelling using ‘que’. It works phonetically doesn’t it?

Is that because they're so toasty?

My favourite thing is similar to the cue/que thing, its on root. Im on root to the shops. He was on root. Sometimes marginally better is on route, which sort of makes a bit more sense when written down

soupfiend · 03/08/2024 13:34

I work in job where we use respite a lot

Huge numbers of professionals at all levels writing in a plan that the child has restbite. Or Rest Bite. Like that.

mauvish · 03/08/2024 13:39

"que" isn't even a Manuelism - if it's a question (which it always was for the hapless Manuel!), it needs an accent (and pref an upside down question mark too but I realise I'm going way past the boundary to pedant territory there and I can't do one on my phone anyway)! Qué?

Is it like that¿ I thought it faced the other direction 🤔. But I'll be honest, I really haven't a clue.

ElephantilonZed · 06/08/2024 09:30

It's dreadful. 😭

Phase
verb
carry out (something) in gradual stages:
"the work is being phased over a number of years"
physics
adjust the phase of (something), especially so as to synchronize it with something else:
"about 70% of the reflections were phased by this method"

Which one applies if you are 'phased'?
