Why are so many people saying ‘slither’ when they mean ‘sliver’?

It’s a sliver of cake, not a slither, FFS.

Don't know but it's really annoying.

This one really annoys me.

I once stopped reading a book because every few pages someone or other would cut themselves, or someone else, a 'slither' of cake.

Even worse if it’s in a book! Their editor must have had a day off.

Someone will be along soon to tell us that we’re ridiculous for being irritated by it, don’t we know language evolves and what does it matter if the context is understood.

Never really thought about it, don't remember seeing it written or ever needing to spell it. I know now, thanks OP.

I'm with you.

I once spent a Saturday morning reacting to a TV chef who was making a recipe that apparently needed "slithers of lemon peel".

Nooooo

God yes, so annoying. They're two different words.

I read a book a while ago where someone could see a 'slither of land on the horizon'.

Currently getting irritated by people who don't know the difference between to and too.
