This morning, in one post, I’ve seen ‘afew’, ‘abit’ and ‘alot’

Surely people realise that these are separate words.

That's more like it.
Dictionaries accepting the new meaning or spelling of a word is decaying the richness of the language.
I learnt today that apparently it is acceptable to call a small dark coffee 'expresso'.

Noooooooooo!

Is there not a difference in meaning between every day and everyday?

Yes!
Everyday means boring, pedestrian!

Tbh, most people I know for whom English is not their first language, read, write and speak it better than many native English speakers

PedantScorner · 13/02/2024 10:46

@quisensoucie , some do. I find that those who have studied English do.
Those who have acquired it from immersion tend not to.

@PedantScorner I would like to add: the defensiveness with which correction is usually received ('maybe she's dyslexic,' 'it's not relevant to correct his grammar,' etc). It seems to be seen as aggressive or passive aggressive to point out incorrect spellings. Except, oddly, on Reddit, where I have only ever seen correction received graciously.

At work I was often asked if someone could make a pointment.
