Pedants' corner

I'm fed up with being stuck in this corner - can't we have a pedants' lounge...

with squashy red sofas, and cockails & snacks served by silent subcservients? With a huge one-way mirror so that we can sneer at watch the rest of MN?

(Could it have been 'fed up of' - discuss)

'Corner' has shades of Eeyore, which seems entirely appropriate to me.

Thistles will be served.

Quattrocento · 19/03/2008 23:33

Midnight, given your moniker I should have thought that you of all people would be keen on a smoking room.

Anyway, I don't like thistles. Now hunny is a different proposition.

StealthPolarBear · 20/03/2008 08:46

Janni, I agree, you take your life in your hands when you click Post.
It's extreme MNing.

midnightexpress · 20/03/2008 08:56

LOL at 'extreme MNing'.

Quattro, my moniker nowt to do with Turkish prisons and all to do with (equivalent) horrors of expressing BM for a ds who wouldn't play bf ball. Though a few fags might have calmed my frayed nerves at the time, in retrospect.

I quite like the idea of one of those cigar clubs Madonna espoused a few years ago, where we all sit around chomping Havanas and muttering about dangling participles.

no one responded to my "up to half price off" pedantry

StealthPolarBear · 20/03/2008 09:14

no one responded to my "up to half price off" pedantry
Or my shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhtrawberry cheesecake (it's on at the moment)
Has no-one else noticed how the "ST" sound has become "SHT" - shtudents, shtrawberry, shtuck?

extremely slow posting page makes me impatient

MrsMattie · 20/03/2008 09:26

PMSL@Janni. I have pedantic tendencies but also type quickly and erratically, so I'm always frightened of posting with the pedants in case I type an apostrophe in the wrong place and am cast out forever.

This morning I am feeling exceedingly irritated by a sign in my local Sainsbury's that reads: 'Hot Cross Bun's 1/2 Price'. Inexcusable.

midnightexpress · 20/03/2008 09:39

SPB I looked long and hard at your 'up to half price off' (admittedly through last night's wine goggles), and agree that there is something wrong with it mathematically, but was unable to advance my theorem and so gave up and went to bed.

But it's the thought that counts.

MonkeybirdisboredWITHbuns · 20/03/2008 09:56

And I am exceedingly irritated by the School Newsletter with a classic 'Wednesdays game'

It always seems somehow much worse when the school do it.

StealthPolarBear · 20/03/2008 10:16

thank you me
any thoughts on my shhhhtrawberries?
Or am I pushing my luck?

MonkeybirdisboredWITHbuns · 20/03/2008 10:27

I think shtudents has become commonplace because of the need to pronounce the 'u' properly, otherwise you sound like an American. Except that people can't be arsed to get their mouths round it so it does indeed become 'shtu'. Especially among shtudents I find.

But I don't think I've heard a sht for any of the others...?

StealthPolarBear · 20/03/2008 10:32

Shhhtudent was the first one I noticed but it's everywhere now, like fleas

MonkeybirdisboredWITHbuns · 20/03/2008 10:53

Fleash?
