in this context:

"...and produce professional looking websites which are user friendly and simple to maintain / continually update"

or doesn't it matter?

I do agree with others that (in pedantic terms) neither seems quite correct - both imply a non-stop-ness of revision process, which is just not going to happen (at some moments of the day your updater is going to be in the loo). Not like CCTV in casinos, which probably is continually and continuously monitored.

I think you should use "ongoingly update" (heh heh)

Twiglett · 28/02/2008 12:33

I think it should be

"...and produce professional looking websites which are user friendly and simple to maintain / update (although you know, and I know, that you will never actually get round to updating it once launched, so we can, on request, remove this capability entirely)"

Earlybird · 28/02/2008 12:35

regularly update?

stuffitllama · 28/02/2008 12:35

by the way i think professional looking is a bit clumsy

do you care what I think

i think twig might not be taking this whole thing seriously

theyoungvisiter · 28/02/2008 12:36

the thing is, I don't think you need an adjective because it sounds a bit hectoring.

I presume from the context this is going to be marketed to website creators, who can (presumably) decide for themselves how often they wish to update their site.

As long as it's simple to update, then they don't need to be told it's simple to update REGULARLY or CONTINUALLY. They may wish only to update it sporadically.

theyoungvisiter · 28/02/2008 12:37

he he - I think Twig just made my point but better!

Bink · 28/02/2008 12:38

or even spasmodically

WendyWeber · 28/02/2008 12:39

"simple to update continuously, continually, regularly, sporadically, or whenever the hell else you feel like doing it (or not)"

how's that?

theyoungvisiter · 28/02/2008 12:40

Wendy, I think that's perfect.

Maybe we should add annually, nocturnally and diurnally as well?

thomsc · 29/02/2008 13:41

Hello, I'm new here (I think I have found my spiritual home) , but wouldn't 'constantly' suggest that the updates happen every second of every hour etc?

I'd go with 'continually'... for what it's worth.

Or, having read the above more closely, go with theyoungvisiter and write the issue out of existence.

I do love 'regularly updated' websites with 2004 copyright statements.

Flllightattendant · 29/02/2008 13:45

You are splitting an infinitive whatever

thomsc · 29/02/2008 13:47

I quite often update websites nocturnally as it's the only time I get a chance to do any work.
