Pedants' corner

Examples of junior pedantry?

Not sure whether to post this here or to resurrect the 'poncey kids' thread, but am proud to have bred a junior pedant, so here goes.

DD1 (age 7) to my mum at the weekend: 'Grandma, you over-use the adjective "lovely"!'

She does too... Things are either 'nice' or 'lovely' (or, if not either nice or lovely, then 'nasty'). But she really didn't need it pointing out by someone 60 years younger than her!

Anyone else got a pedant-in-the-making?

We have.

DGD (nearly 6 months) talks ALL the time in a sing song voice. All the sounds are there, even L and R, and she is very fluent. Unfortunately, we cannot work out which language she is using, though it is certainly not English.

DGS (a superior newly 1 year old) looks and listens intently and becoming exasperated, shakes his head vehemently and shouts at her, very loudly 'DA DA DA DA DA DA....'. DA is his only word so far, although he does have a full range of rude noises and can whistle! However, it is obvious to all who have witnessed this performance that DA means 'speak English woman'.

dd2 (5) corrected me on my pronunciation of the French word 'vingt". She was right.

DD2 turned to me at the weekend and said 'Mummy, I have LITERALLY got something up my sleeve.'
It was a pencil.
