"alot" when people mean "a lot"

I'm seeing this more and more. It can't even be down to autocorrect as "alot" isn't even a blooming word!

Is anyone else noticing this creeping in as one word instead of two?

This drives me mad! I want to correct people who do it. Lose and loose is another one. I really don't understand how this one even started. Aloud, instead of allowed.

The other one that really gets me is "I done", instead of I did! I hear this more and more.

You were deleted because it's deeply unpleasant to make fun of other people whose English might not be as good as your own.

If that's your idea of fun, then you're nothing but a bully.

I can assure you, @WhenIWasAFieldMyself, that I did not make any fun of the OP, as I stated she was amused not offended.

I had been looking at her post trying to make sense of it and eventually asked her politely whether she had meant nonchalant (as opposed to a variety of onions). It was not her opening post, it was a busy thread which suddenly went quiet after this post which presumably was because no one else could make sense of it either. For her, it was like realising a misheard song lyric, I've done this plenty of times myself, there was no offence intended and no offence taken by the OP. It was probably my first time to type out the word nonchalant and possibly her first time to attempt it. I can't recall ever using this word in conversation myself.

If you take a moment to re-read my post above I am sure you will understand that jumping to a bullying conclusion is ridiculous unwarranted. There is really no need for you to take offence on behalf of someone who was not offended in the slightest bit. The OP and I enjoyed the moment.

Pedal stool for Pedestal was different. No comment made on that, it was clear what the OP had intended to say even if all I could see is someone sitting on a high stool pedalling away and getting nowhere.

I have never once pointed out to someone that they have used incorrect versions of a lot/lose/loose/definitely/defiantly etc. I'd be kept far too busy here. 🙃However, I will use whatever I understand to be the correct version if I happen to reply. Those OPs will probably think that my level of English is not as good as their own, maybe it's not, I'm not British!!!

As a teacher, surely you know that "alot" is simply a mistake while "intresting" etc is due to elided syllables?

I wasn’t equating them. Thanks for the lesson though - so very much appreciated. 😉
