Perfectly Fine

FFS this is terrible English and it grates on me.
Perfectly "good" or "well" is correct, surely?

And while I'm here, since when did "super" be an acceptable synonym for "very"?

Not sure why you don't like "perfectly fine". It's neither incorrect, or terrible English.

"Super" has had the meaning of "very" or "over" since it passed into English (Middle) from Latin.

It's extremely bad English.
Saying "she was perfectly fine earlier" when you mean that someone was perfectly well, is not correct.
As for super, it sound not replace "very".
It's twee and annoying.

They ought to say "should" not, obviously.

What's wrong with "perfectly fine" though? I don't understand why it's extremely bad English.

You might not like "super" for "very", and that's fine, but it's not wrong either Confused

Perfectly fine means exactly meeting the criteria for 'fine'.
Why isn't it acceptable?

Perfectly rotten
Perfectly average
Perfectly reasonable

PedantScorner · 11/05/2023 20:04

A sentence like 'I felt perfectly fine earlier but I have a headache now.' is grammatically correct.

BarelyLiterate · 11/05/2023 20:13

your opinions perfectly reasonable, OP. i dont happen to share it but thats perfectly fine innit;

😉
