My friend uses the wrong words...

My very good, kind and lovely friend uses the word "pacific" rather than the correct term "specific". My fellow pedants, what do I do? I have turned a blind eye (or deaf ear) to it thus far, but it drives me crazy. Another lovely friend responded to my ds saying "How do you do?" (he is 18 mths - very cute!) by saying "Very well thank you and how are you?"!

Am I going straight to hell for being so judgemental?

I loathe 'idear' (idea)

MIL does this all the time. And she is Mrs Perfect, don't you know.

Lol WOS!

AdamAnt · 12/02/2008 13:45

The pacific/specific thing is obviously wrong.

I'm not convinced about the "how do you do" and "how are you" thing though. Surely the two phrases are interchangeable in a greeting.

I will get ny coat, we're talking about malapropisms, not accents. I am most apopletic.

My dh says 'vamished' instead of 'famished' (which is probably an exaggeration in itself!)

Suspect I may be treading on another poster's toes here but I always wince at "haitch".

Oh and that awful woman on Car Booty who says "jewllery"

Mrs Malaprop, the Importance of Being Earnest, Oscar Wilde.

Isn't a malapropism when you use the wrong word?

I could be typing sh*t though!

rachaelsara · 12/02/2008 21:57

Is it another thing coming or anither think coming? I truly don't know!

rachaelsara · 12/02/2008 21:57

another jeeze I need to run to bed!

BarbaraWoodlouse · 12/02/2008 22:00

MF - she (Lorne someone) says ju-le-ry rather than jew-el-ry. For some reason it really used to get to me! (Hope that makes sense)

PS I get out a bit more these days

Thank you!

BarbaraWoodlouse · 12/02/2008 22:06

I knew I would end up upseting someone with that one. Sorry.

Obviously it's fine and dandy if you are Scottish.

rachaelsara · 12/02/2008 22:07

I avoid that by saying "bling"

midnightexpress · 12/02/2008 22:10

Ahem. Mrs Malaprop isn't in the Importance of Being Earnest, but The Rivals (I think...) by Sheridan.

And it's 'another think coming' - 'another thing' makes no sense whatsoever.
