to be sick of shop assistants and customer service assistants adding 'yourself' or 'myself' to the end of sentences... its not right, surely?

like 'i'll just do that for yourself'
i can't remember any other examples right now, but over the last couple of weeks, i've heard it so many times

i have never heard it but is sounds most fucking annoying and incorrect.

I think you should correct and be stern - it needs nipping in the bud before it storms the country.

somersetmum · 02/02/2008 23:19

Woman I work with says, on the phone: "If you have a problem, please don't hesitate to call myself".

gigglewitch · 02/02/2008 23:22

very annoying. And grammatically incorrect

BBBee · 02/02/2008 23:24

somerset I would say 'call myself what?' and be all confused.

how irritating.

somersetmum · 02/02/2008 23:25

lol, I might try that. I've only been there four weeks, so might wait a little longer

luminarphrases · 02/02/2008 23:27

i'm glad its not just me

somerset- i've heard that one as well! i'm convinced its people who desperately want to sound authoritative

Another one that really annoys me, sorry if you've already covered it, is when people say "those ones". Why the need for the extra word? What is wrong with just saying "those"?? dh says it too, tis very annoying.

Sixer · 02/02/2008 23:37

'cause it's how we speak, like. we was never learnt proper. And, right, you just speak to myself if you needs any help, right, just me like, no one else, jus' meself. got it?

Pan · 03/02/2008 22:20

to be fair, it's an Irish thing to use himself, yourself etc. And I like it.

edam · 03/02/2008 22:24

I suspect they are trying to be extra-polite and getting it very wrong. No idea why they would think 'myself' or 'yourself' sounds more polite than 'me' or 'you'.
