Where has "finical" come from?

Surely until about a year ago, people could generally spell "financial". Most people can manage "finance", after all.

I can see how we get "chester draws", because at least it's written like the phrase sounds like in some accents. But now "finical" is suddenly everywhere and it doesn't even vaguely look like how the word sounds. A symptom of collective giving up on anything with more than two syllables?

I've never come across it - where are you seeing it?

Just a typo perhaps?

On the "squeezed middle" thread this morning. On many others in the past couple of years.

Just I typo I would guess. I don't think it's a 'thing'. This is where an edit function would be useful, I make endless typos, and autocorrect has put in some really bizarre words before now...still can make a post quite amusing sometimes!

Unfounded and unresearched opinion here but I think more and more people are using speech to text and never check their work before sending. The AI is hearing different accents and can't cope - it's just taking a phonetic guess at what it's hearing.

I swear I've seen it loads across this site of late, although speech-to-text could be a contributing factor. Perhaps my pedantry is getting the better of me.

I'd never seen it on here, or elsewhere.
I just AS'd it and there have been about 6 examples of it since 2013, so I'd say it's not that it's becoming a "thing", just that very occasionally, for whatever reasons, people don't know how to spell "financial"
It could be speech-text dictation. My English teacher colleague sends some corkers as she always dictates on WA.

eurochick · 15/11/2022 14:46

I've never seen it anywhere. I'd expect it is a typo.

Chersfrozenface · 15/11/2022 14:49

I head it in my head as "finicky" but in Bristolian.

Out of context never thought it was related to finance.

Chersfrozenface · 15/11/2022 14:51

'heard', obviously.

The AI is hearing different accents and can't cope,

like the subtitle which talked about the Extra Vinegar vaccine.
