I see I've killed two threads in this section dead--as Johnson's [query apostrophe] used to say on their fly-killer.

I am a pedant, honest. Can't I play with you? I need pedants around me. Pedants are nice people.

Hello Eliza2!

It's my first time in this corner, but I like it!

I'll go and find your killer-message and add something inflammatory, shall I?

Pedants must be united or we shall never conquer.

Eliza2 · 17/01/2008 20:27

We must stick together, legleia. I think another kind poster has added a message to one post I killed earlier (thank you).

In the US they would, I think, have stuck that final period inside the bracket. Which, I think, looks odd.

"Period??" It's a full-stop over here, love.

I wholeheartedly agree with putting it outside the bracket, though!

SORRY, Legoleia! I work for an American companyturning US pages into UK pagesand some of their little ways stick. I am beating myself over the head with my style guide.

My husband told me off for referring to a 'graph the other day.

We do have graphs... (am I missing something?).

Eliza2 · 17/01/2008 21:01

Graphs short for paragraphs? Is that a Brit thing [comma before though you don't always need one I understand] too.

I'd just shorten it to paras?

I think your bracket is fine.

Ah, I thought you meant graphs, as in the lines on graph-paper. Or pie-charts.

Eliza2, I think that you are me. All your talk of Pensions trustees brings back so many memories of my previous existence. Don't even get me started on PensioneEr Trustees.

"Yes, there really is another "E", it means something a little bit different...please don't make me explain".

Eliza2 · 17/01/2008 21:38

Am I you? This could be fun! Do you ever correct punctuation on school noticeboards? Do you tut over greetings cards that say: 'Its you're birthday'?

I think I get the pensioneer trustees.

Eliza2 - I believe you killed my thread, too!

I'm a newcomer to Pedants' corner, too.
