Aaaaargh, dd(only 3.7 but still!) says this phrase all the time it has been picked up from dh, i try to ignore it when he says it because he is too old to change but really, who says 'i'm having a toilet' [rolls eyes]. She means she needs a wee, just for clarification

DH also has trouble with the use of bring/take which really irritates me too.

needed to get that off my chest

Apologies if anything is spelt wrongly of phrased incorrectly I'm not a fully fledged pedant

I know of someone who dumped their partner because he announced that he was "Going to make peepee".

Eliza2 · 18/01/2008 18:46

I think you need to hit him on the head with the loo brush every time he says it. It won't take long, Eddas. And 'tis for his own good and that of future generations.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 18/01/2008 18:48

I feel your pain.

Round these parts, it's common to hear people speak of being 'learnt' not 'taught'.

Ie 'My Mum learnt me to make gravy'.

Aaaargh

FrannyandZooey · 18/01/2008 18:50

LOL sorry I find it childishly amusing

I may adopt it, at least in my own head

Eliza2 · 18/01/2008 18:50

I wonder if that's a derivation from a Germanic or Norse dialect? In German, the word to teach is lehren. Do you live in the north, boysarelikedogs?

Izzybel · 18/01/2008 18:51

My DP borrows people stuff and lends off other people. Drives me barmy!

theFlyingEvil · 18/01/2008 18:52

i hate "having a toilet" too.

ds says it. he is 8 1/2.

there are enough issues regarding his lavatory habits (crapping with the door open, peeing round the seat etc etc), i figure it is just another thing i will hope vainly t'will resolve itself...

Izzybel · 18/01/2008 18:57

It really bugs me when an adult announces "right I'm going for a wee." It's TMI, thankyou very much. I don't need to know what it is that you're going for!

southeastastra · 18/01/2008 19:01

my ds(6) says it too. 'i need to have a toilet'

mil always says 'i need to spend a penny' inflation hasn't caught up with her as it's now about 20p isn't it.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 18/01/2008 19:01

In deepest darkest West of England, not far from Wales.

theFlyingEvil · 18/01/2008 19:04

i live round there boysarelikedogs. would they also have a "gurt big toilet" by any chance?

BoysAreLikeDogs · 18/01/2008 19:10

Yep, gurt big toilet.

All right old butty ?

Heh heh heh

scatterbrain · 18/01/2008 19:12

My dh has made a verb out of it - he "loos" and says someone else is "looing" - drives me mad ! Fortunately dd also thinks it's stupid !

handlemecarefully · 18/01/2008 19:18

I find it quite endearing

Eliza2 · 18/01/2008 19:34

Whoops my theory falls down, BoysArelikeDogs, because I don't think the West was a norse/saxon area in particular. Aren't you all Celts down there?

I still say 'Flush the chain' But you don't flush the chain, you flush the loo. Most loos havent even got chains!

Eliza2 · 18/01/2008 19:45

This is very interesting to me, motherhurdicure, for a number of reasons... I'm referring to the germanic influences in Somerset(though the brown bath is notable too).
