Somehow such a pleasing word.

And it's onomatopoeic - another pleasing word.

This is a thread for happy word-nerds. What words please you, just by their existence?

When I was studying history at secondary school, I had a thing for the words demilitarisation and remilitarisation. So satisfying words to write in essays!

Ridingthegravytrain · 14/05/2020 10:46

I love insidious, quixotic and axiomatic.

ememem84 · 14/05/2020 10:47

Leopard.

What does borborygmi mean

Dilbertian · 14/05/2020 11:06

Insidious - yes, another lovely word that sounds like its meaning.

Borborygmi are the burbling sounds your guts make.

Ooh I love words. Sesquipedalian is my current favourite. I also love exsanguinate (not the meaning, just the sound)

BabyMoonPie · 14/05/2020 11:09

@Dilbertian thank you - you've just given me a new favourite word. I have "digestive issues" so I'll get to use it often too! 😀

Pleasebeafleabite · 14/05/2020 11:12

Synecdoche

Altruistic-lovely to say with associated lovely meaning. Always thought it would be a good name for a racehorse

Dilbertian · 14/05/2020 14:37

Ooo 'synecdoche' - new word! I had to look it up Grin

I shall gift it to dd (she's doing English Lit A-level ).

This is probably cheating as it is a place name and not an English word.
Monongahela, as in Monongahela Valley. I love singing this word with Bruce Springsteen in the song Youngstown.

FawnDrench · 18/05/2020 20:57

Epicaricacy
Ubiquitous

FlamedToACrisp · 25/05/2020 01:07

Deciduous - sounds kinda juicy

EBearhug · 25/05/2020 01:19

I like squirrel, the way it sort of curls round the side of your tongue like a wave.

MikeUniformMike · 29/05/2020 17:44

I love the word borborygmus. I find the plural loses something.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 23/09/2020 18:52

cantilever (it just sounds so right for what it is)
associate (all whispery behind the hands)
magnum (champagne, not the gun)
monomachy (so much better than mere fisticuffs)

butterpuffed · 23/09/2020 19:11

Idiosyncrasies [and there are so many of them in the English language!]

Echobelly · 23/09/2020 19:13

zinzulation - making a buzzing noise

JaJaDingDong · 23/09/2020 19:23

I love "onomatopoeia".
Also "salubrious", " gubernatorial" and "amanuensis".
