But full fat is easier to say Smile

RedCowboyBoots · 22/08/2019 10:14

But it's so wrong! With such an awful mental image- globules of fat swilling around in your coke bottle.

shudders

Megan2018 · 22/08/2019 10:15

I always call it full fat despite knowing there is no fat in it. Sorry! But not going to stop

Lumene · 22/08/2019 10:17

Lol I just came on this post to say exactly what you are saying OP

smoothy · 22/08/2019 10:18

Yesssss!! This drives me nuts

PullingMySocksUp · 22/08/2019 10:19

It’s just a joke.

Babdoc · 22/08/2019 10:20

Yup, I feel your pain, OP! I’m autistic and pedantic and the phrase irritates me too.
Along with redundant apostrophes and the Times referring to bacteria as “viruses” and adverts that say “two times better” instead of “twice as good” and “ better then half price” instead of “less than half price”...
And breathe...!

Babdoc · 22/08/2019 10:21

Not to mention bloody autocorrect turning “than” into “then”!

slipperywhensparticus · 22/08/2019 10:22

Specific ocean my son said this the other day I shouted PACIFIC! top volume 😳 he is ten

slipperywhensparticus · 22/08/2019 10:22

110% there are no words for the rage

BlockedAndDeleted · 22/08/2019 10:25

Round our way it’s known as ‘fat coke’ because it, well, makes you fat...

The misuse of ‘begs the question’ and ‘the exception proves the rule’ riles me though...

ChatWithMe · 22/08/2019 10:25

Hehe I agree too (coke is not a fatty drink at all, just makes you fat if you drink too much of the sugar-laden variety).

My pet peeve is the incorrect usage of lay versus lie (most people don't realise lay is a transitory verb and requires an object) - not that I need anyone to agree with me on this peculiarity of English! ;-)

RedCowboyBoots · 22/08/2019 10:25

I have found my people Smile

Aderyn19 · 22/08/2019 10:27

We call it fat boy coke. Cuts to the chase, I think.

magicstar1 · 22/08/2019 10:46

Thank you OP. I can't stand that phrase.

Pretendapony · 22/08/2019 12:00

All the fat people I know drink Diet Coke.

Babdoc · 22/08/2019 12:36

ChatWithMe, I’m definitely with you on the lie/lay confusion! I often want to ask people what they were laying - the table? An egg?
I can only assume their confusion arose because lay is the past tense of lie. They’ve somehow taken it as the present tense. “I’m laying on the bed”. No you’re not - you’re lying on it! Sigh.

ChatWithMe · 22/08/2019 13:25

Wow Babdoc - there really is someone who gets it besides me! :-D Made my day hehe. I have explained it various times to my husband (at length) but he doesn't see it my way I'm afraid...

pigsDOfly · 23/08/2019 14:17

Full fat coke annoys me too.

The lay/lie thing also annoys me, probably too much. I suspect that it's partly influenced by American English as in American films and television programmes I've never heard anyone use the word lie, it's always lay.

It also seem that the American pronunciation of harass/harassment has become the norm in Britain now. It's rare now that anyone pronounces it the British way.

Herefortheduration · 23/08/2019 14:57

@BlockedAndDeleted
What's wrong with the exception proves the rule’?

BlockedAndDeleted · 23/08/2019 15:39

Nothing’s wrong with the phrase when it’s used correctly.

BlackCatSleeping · 23/08/2019 15:41

It’s just a joke. Because it makes you fat.

I live it when people misuse “literally”.

And my head literally exploded. The mental image always makes me smile. I have a dark sense of humor though.

MooominMamma · 23/08/2019 16:08

I call it fat coke, as in, it will make you fat.

Thiswayorthatway · 23/08/2019 16:17

Sugar makes you fat. So YABU

Pinkblueberry · 23/08/2019 16:20

I just call it coke...
