Honestly, it's all over Mumsnet. 'My advise would be...', 'Can I please have some advise about...'

What are your pet peeves at the moment?

Using of instead of have

'That must of been very annoying'

It drives me nuts

I think it has probably arisen because of the contracted version must've which sounds a little like 'must of'

Notwithstanding - it still drives me nuts ☺️

Oh yes, it's so prevalent too! Interesting theory - I think you're probably right.

Infer and imply.

Writers or speakers imply. Listeners or readers infer.

It's simple, so get it right. Grrrrrr......

MrsBertBibby · 22/02/2019 08:25

Refute and deny. Tooth grindingly annoying.

I came to the corner to post exactly about advice/advise. I get that oractice/practise is tricky as we say them the same, up with advice/advise we don’t! I’ve never heard anybody say the wrong one, so why write it!
Oh, and I agree with the rest of you too.

cardibach · 28/02/2019 19:11

Also I can’t type.

Mash potato
Pack lunch

It’s mashed and packed !

Loose being used as a verb gets me. I see it all the time on MN Hmm
