That boat that Noah had...

...was it Noah's Ark or Noah's ark?

(Not that I believe in it!)

Did it have "Noah's Ark" written on the side/blunt end, or was it just some old ark that happened to belong to Noah?

I think it was just an ark that belonged to Noah!

LtGreggs · 03/01/2019 18:58

Well, he built it specifically for the job. (God told him to)

I think it was Noah's ark, named on the side as the Ark. Grin

Goldenbug · 03/01/2019 19:00

The question is really whether or not to capitalise "ark"? (Or "Ark"!)

Also I think that now Noah is a trendy name, next up will be a revival of his sons' names: Shem, Ham & Japheth

They are the one reason that I wish I had triplets.

XmasPostmanBos · 03/01/2019 19:02

Interesting question also is an Ark or ark a type of boat or does it have another meaning?

JITSOG · 03/01/2019 19:05

If you don’t believe in it. Why ask questions about something you perceive to be made up? Confused

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 03/01/2019 19:05

Presumably it’s a proper noun as it’s a specific ark not just any old ark, so Ark would be correct.

Goldenbug · 03/01/2019 19:06

I think it comes from "chest/container", as in The Ark Of The Covenant.

LtGreggs · 03/01/2019 19:07

It means a safe/special place or place of refuge, as well as a type of boat - as in the Ark of the Covenant or Schindler's Ark

(Maybe boat thing came about from the bible story though??)

Goldenbug · 03/01/2019 19:08

JITSOG - it's a very popular story and I work with young children and there are a lot of arks about in nurseries.

I'm with Judas.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 03/01/2019 19:08

Ark is presumably a vessel of any kind, in biblical terms anyway, ie The Ark of the Covenant

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 03/01/2019 19:09

Xpost!

LynetteScavo · 03/01/2019 19:09

Noah's Ark would be correct.

But he probably named it after his wife and wrote Naamah on the side. Wink

LtGreggs · 03/01/2019 19:09

JITSOG - there's plenty of good discussion to be had about religion, myth and literature without needing to believe any of it.

alansleftfoot · 03/01/2019 19:10

In synagogues the place where the Torah scrolls are kept is called the Ark,

My story book referred to "Shem, Ham, Japheth and their wives" - handily sparking early feminist outrage. Every time I think of it I think I must go and find out their names...

LtGreggs · 03/01/2019 19:19

This is an excellent thread - I have just googled for more family info on Noah and discovered Genesis 9:22 in which Noah gets drunk and passes out in his tent GrinGin

C00lio · 03/01/2019 19:35

Yes, doesn't he shag his daughter or something in his drunken state?

Whenever I meet a cute little Noah toddler, I always think to myself that his parents probably should have researched their Bible history a little bit more...

C00lio · 03/01/2019 19:39

Oops, no, that was Lot! Clearly it's me who needs to do more research!

Still think Noah was a bit of a tool for cursing his grandson, though.

labazs · 03/01/2019 19:54

it was the ark belonging to Noah
