When did everyone start saying "samwidge" instead of sandwich? Admittedly I work in catering so probably hear the word a lot more than most, but it's just so annoying, or maybe I'm the weirdo for saying the d! Confused

Samwidge is bad. Same as hospicle and keccle.

Samwidge is a great word! I do say 'sandwich' though I think I might not pronounce the 'd' too clearly!

I find "Northern Island" instead of Northern Ireland irritating too. The R is not meant to be silent! And loch being pronounced "lock", as if it's part of a canal.

PlausibleSuit · 15/05/2018 17:48

I'm partial to a hamwidge myself.

I work with someone who eats a regular 'sang-witch'

My friend does this. She's Italian-Canadian.

I'm sure 'sanga' is a common abbreviation in Australia for sandwich . . .

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 23/05/2018 23:52

In Ireland it’s sambo, rather unfortunately...

ArtfulPuss · 04/06/2018 10:52

I asked the kids if they wanted 'sangers' for lunch the other day. They didn't know what I was talking about. I don't know where it came from either, although if it's Australian it's possible that it entered my brain during an episode of Neighbours/Home and Away back in the 80s and has been lurking there ever since.
