Just that. It's my pet hate and I can take no more.

OP posts:
MincemeatTart · 12/02/2018 18:15

Indeed. Totally reasonable assertion.

Namechange16 · 12/02/2018 18:15

I heard this today. It makes people sound less intelligent imo.

WorraLiberty · 12/02/2018 18:16

Yes very unreasonable.

Apart from the fact tons of people keep posting to say this, I think these threads can put people with less than perfect spelling/grammar off of posting about their problems.

As long as others can understand them, people should be free to post as they please without feeling judged for it.

I get that it's annoying but we're all adults here and I'm sure it's better to grit your teeth, than make people feel embarrassed about how they word things.

LostInShoebiz · 12/02/2018 18:17

See also "pacifically" and incorrect use of "myself/yourself/himself".

No need to of posted a thread though, you could of just ignored it

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 12/02/2018 18:18

Yes YABU and posting pedantic twattishness outside your special corner is pathetic and needy.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 12/02/2018 18:20

tinytemper66 · 12/02/2018 18:20

ADuckNamedSplash · 12/02/2018 18:21

YANBU!

I'll also add, "chest of draws".

Scabetty · 12/02/2018 18:22

Uabu to of brung this up again.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 12/02/2018 18:23

Fine for correcting in school but it doesn't have a place on a mainstream chatboard though. See Worra's post ^^ for explanation of why if lacking imagination.

lonelyworld · 12/02/2018 18:23

I hate it too .It puts me off completely @Scabetty 😂😂😂

IHaveBrilloHair · 12/02/2018 18:24

Getta lyf lol hehe lol xxxx hun x

GnotherGnu · 12/02/2018 18:24

It's no longer good enough to say we all have to be super-tolerant of this. It's a dreadful mistake and our children are living in a world where they will be severely marked down in exams if they make it. Therefore as parents, grandparents, or whoever, we all really do have a duty to learn to get it right.

alphajuliet123 · 12/02/2018 18:25

We have a being / been affliction where I live:

"I bought her treat for been good"
"They are been naughty today"
"I'm not been funny, but..."

It seems to be very localised, I've lived in the general area all my adult life but didn't notice it until I moved to this town... I do wonder if they all had the same English teacher!

MadMags · 12/02/2018 18:26

I do remember SPaG being of a much better standard when 'twas all fields around here, but people are allowed to be lax on a chat forum.

Some don't know it's wrong. Most don't care, and they're not obliged to.

DaisysStew · 12/02/2018 18:27

I don’t understand why people feel the need to correct other adults. Smacks of smugness and superiority.

Your own children, fine. People you’re paid to teach, also fine. Strangers posting on a forum - not fine.

LostInShoebiz · 12/02/2018 18:27

Hear, hear Gnother!

OP posts:
LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 12/02/2018 18:27

Well run some classes on Pedant's Corner then Gnother or turn your living room into a classroom if you like, but it's not yours or anyone else's job to do that on AIBU.

backaftera2yearbreak · 12/02/2018 18:29

I presume you don’t live in Scotland op. Could of, where are you at. You’d hate it!

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 12/02/2018 18:30

Are you a goady fucker then, Lost? I mean, this isn't the board for it and presumably you know that so, knowing that you'll make some posters feel badly and inadequate because you're pulling them up - unasked - on their spelling, grammar, etc., do you get your kicks from that?

BIWI · 12/02/2018 18:30

If the OP was correcting someone specifically then that would be twattish. But she isn't. It's pointing out as a general thing.

PositivelyPERF · 12/02/2018 18:30

I’m twitching, just reading this. 😣 I’m not skilled at putting my thoughts down, but ‘could of’! 😖 (I’m aware I have probably made lots of grammatical errors, in this post.) 😬
