Example: you have a reference number for a series of documents, i.e. RefID 1234567. The phrase 'refID' is also often used in a sentence, i.e. 'Please see refID 1234567'.

Does RefID have a capital R when used as part of a sentence as above or is it refID?

Thank you!

I don't suppose there's a definitive answer. It looks a bit ugly either way, but if it's in a context where it's an accepted abbreviation, surely there's an existing convention to follow?

I'd go for capital R as the ID are in capitals, so it looks a bit tidier - and that way indicates that it is an Official Term.

As long as you keep it the same throughout the document - ie. don't switch between 'RefID' and 'refID' - either is fine. My preference, though, is 'RefID'.
