Cover off?

I often hear people using this phrase in the office; for example, "Have we covered off [item x] in our work?" or on a call "before you go, something else I forgot to cover off..."

I first heard it a few years ago and it's always grated on me, but am I wrong to feel that way? I feel like I want people to say 'cover', or maybe 'tick off' (as in off a list) at a push, instead.

I have never heard it before. Is it new wanky management speak?

I'm not sure if it counts as management speak, but I'd argue for it being wanky... no idea where it originated!
