Well? I work in nurseries, so I'd quite like to be sure I'm spelling where I'm working correctly.

Pre-school?
Pre-School?
Pre School?
Pre school?
Preschool?
Er...I think they're the only possibilities.

pre-school

MaroonPencil · 09/03/2017 21:57

Well, it's the Pre-school Learning Alliance, and I suppose they would know.

GoodyGoodyGumdrops · 10/03/2017 07:42

Yes, capital P for titles.

TiggyD · 10/03/2017 08:37

So I would say that "I work in a Pre-school" would I?

Sort of 'feels' right. Thanks all.

No, I don't think so.

You wouldn't write "I work in a School", so I don't think "I work in a Pre-school" is correct, either.

...in school
...at school

Therefore:
...in pre-school
...at pre-school

I work in Meadow School and my child goes to Meadow Pre-School.

Pre-school is lovely.

Meadow Pre-School is lovely.

Both are OK.

Just make sure you are constant in whichever you choose.

I imagine, as with most prefixes, the more common usage is without the hypen.

TheClaws · 12/03/2017 09:17

The correct usage, for clarity, is 'I work at Meadow Pre-School.'

Without the suffix, the sentence could suggest before school, depending on context. To save those types of issues, always use the suffix.

VintagePerfumista · 12/03/2017 13:21

Prefix.

Goody-goody is right.
