MCG I think you are a freaking idiot! What a horrible post to make calling people idiots due to their colloquialisms. I am so glad I don't know you in real life. In NI this is a standard way of speaking between friends/family, along with the term ye. Just because I say yous does not make me a fucking idiot, in fact I am most likely more or at least equivalent educated as you. I am actually quite the opposite to a fucking idiot!
Now living in England, I have no doubt my children will also say yous as they grow up. They will have picked this up from me, dh and family. However, this will not make them fucking idiots.
I really hope to never come across you in real life and I think you could learn from the saying, if you have nothing good to say, don't say anything.

In Dublin it's yis

Your plural is yisser

E.g. "Please have yisser tickets ready for inspection" as said by the ticket inspector to a packed train carriage.

Makes perfect sense when you think about it Smile

I use yous. I'm Scottish.

It's a great word.

Mrsbadger77 · 27/04/2016 17:06

Many European languages have a plural ' you'. This makes things much clearer. I think yous should be brought in to common usage!

bibbity TBF it is Pedants' Corner

ouryve · 27/04/2016 22:42

DH tends to get a little ranty about "wuh".

Kidnapped · 27/04/2016 22:49

I like yous. We don't use it round these parts but I like the sound of it.

Also like to hear y'all whenever I am in the southern parts of the States. Sounds friendly and welcoming.

pippistrelle · 27/04/2016 22:50

Of course, once upon a time 'you' was only plural, and 'thou' was the second person singular. I bet there were people who complained about 'thou' being dropped - they probably said 'what is wronge with people?'

RavioliOnToast · 27/04/2016 22:51

I'm Sunderland and would say that.

MsMermaid · 27/04/2016 22:58

I don't bat an eyelid hearing it out loud, it's just a dialect thing, and very common in all areas I've lived. I do wince when I see it written down (in coursework !!Shock) and even worse when people write it as "use", as in " do use have that?" I have to read it out loud to make sense of things like that.
