I got one less problem without you

My DD (16) told me this morning that this song "makes me want to kill myself". For a moment I was distressed about such over the top expression of emotion about a song, then realised it was the misuse of the word "less" that was upsetting her so much and making her reach for the off switch. So proud....

For the record, I actually agree that somebody's blog is not a source of authority, and I never claimed it was. I was just sad that people wouldn't even consider what was in the blog (which if I recall correctly contained a link to a OED entry among other things so surely had something of value to offer).

Otherwise, I agree with pretty much everything you say above, so I'll have to wait for another opportunity to show that I'm perfectly happy to keep talking with those who I don't agree with! I've learnt things on pedants' corner and changed my views, so I'm going to stick here.
