'Firstly, secondly' - DH reckons they're prepositions? I'm not so sure.

Firstly, secondly etc are adverbs.

Before and after can be adverbs or prepositions.

A preposition is something that tells you where something is in relation to something else. eg "over", "under", "by"

I would have said "firstly" and "secondly" are adjectives, though I wouldn't argue with them being adverbs.
