Priti Patel and her dropped Gs

AKeyFox · 11/05/2014 22:42

Always drops her Gs (speakin, learnin, feelin etc).

But has anyone noticed how she doesn't drop her Gs when she's angry or talking quickly ?

She's just been on Radio 4 and got slightly hot under the collar.
Forgot to drop about 4 in a row!!

Utterly hilarious.

I heard her on Today this morning and tbh the accent is the least of her worries (as it should be really).

ohmymimi · 01/06/2015 14:46

She's popping up all over the place at the moment. I mute her, which is no great loss, as her signal forté is toeing the party line, with a side helping of smug. It must be artificiality of her speech pattern which I find so intensely irritating, as I covet an authentic regional accent (sounding like a rather low rent Princess Anne myself).

PausingFlatly · 01/06/2015 14:58

Oh her.

I don't normally clock random MPs, but she made an impression a few years back as outstandingly dim, and nasty with it.

Is this proving accurate?

Greythorne · 01/06/2015 15:39

Pausing

Yes

PausingFlatly · 01/06/2015 16:01

Ah.

I seem to remember her ferociously pushing some line to please her party higher-ups, with no apparent understanding of its content.

I expect she'll do well for herself personally under this government. She's the continuation of Chris Grayling by other means.

DoctorDonnaNoble · 01/06/2015 17:12

We moved recently and are now in her constituency. (Which makes little socio-geographical sense) I was so upset when I learnt we were, she is a supporter of the death penalty amongst other things I disagree with her about, but they we go.
There is of course history of middle class people from this area trying to sound more 'real' just ask Damon Albarn.

InstitutionCode · 01/06/2015 17:15

She's not from Witham Doctor, she's a Londoner and went to Grammar School in Watford. But the same applies re the affectation of "low class" accents.

Greythorne · 01/06/2015 17:19

I wouldn't normally use the word thick but listening to her on the radio today, she just sounds think as mince.

DoctorDonnaNoble · 01/06/2015 17:35

Institution, ah, I see. I intend to keep her very busy replying to me over the next 5 years.

Jjay33 · 20/04/2020 22:47

She also says ‘anythink’ and ‘everythink’. This is a senior member of The British cabinet who apparently can’t speak English properly. That’s before we get to the troubling way she reads numbers, (300,34,974000) and her inability to construct a lucid or logical argument or response to a question.
To top it all, by all accounts - she has a history of bullying at work.

Is this the best we can do?

WhenItIsOver · 25/04/2020 17:05

I thought no-one else was bothered by this, so pleased I am not alone.

Can't bear to listen to her for more than one reason, as covered by previous posters.

I couldn't have any faith in someone so shallow.

mouse70 · 25/04/2020 17:42

Just spotted this thread was started last year!!!!!I was watching catch up of daily briefing Coronavirus and was irritated by her dropping her Gs then went to MN and found this thread by accident. I had never heard her speak before today. I know it is the content and information that is the important thing but still find it most irritating(also shoulder to the wheel)

WhenItIsOver · 25/04/2020 18:08

I am surprised that the thread has been allowed to stay. Usually any mention of her and they are zapped.

Noextremes2017 · 22/05/2020 17:42

Priti Awful sums her up.

Sacked a few years back for trying to take financial advantage of her position as a Minister.

Swiftly re-instated. Says it all. Another pig with her nose in the trough.

Her dropping G's is the least of our problems. Her in any position to influence people's lives - massive problem.

MillicentMartha · 22/05/2020 17:50

Zombie thread from 2014! She’s still droppin’ them, though.

SnickettyLemon · 22/05/2020 18:02

She clearly is not on Mumsnet, because she is still doing it 5 years on in the corona virus daily update! BTW, I wouldn't normally act like the grammar police, but I found it irritating and it sounded quite unprofessional.

7Swaylands7 · 22/06/2020 19:40

Sadiq Khan also drops his Gs in exactly the same way. Don't think she's putting it on - just a regional accent.

HavelockVetinari · 07/07/2020 20:14

Never mind the dropped Gs, she's a vile bully - DWP had to pay private office staff off because they'd have lost an employment tribunal for failing to protect them. Philip Rutnam is a really decent person, his resignation took such decency and courage.

KaptainKaveman · 08/07/2020 20:14

She's thick. She's ultra right wing. What's to like?

Petraco · 21/07/2020 14:32

Can I add to this thread to bring to the attention of Mumsnet that our current Home Secretary has still not found her missing "G"s all of these years later after she first lost them...
