A tiny Christmas rant

Hate it when people say 'on Christmas' rather than 'at Christmas'. I can't help it, it makes me seethe!

I'd like to revive this one if any pedants are interested because I don't understand the problem with 'on Christmas.'

To me, the word 'day' is implied. So in the same way one would say "on Tuesday," one should say "on Christmas."

What am I missing?

However, one would say "I will see you at Christmas" with the implied word being 'time', so perhaps the choice of on or at is determined by context.

On Christmas day is totally fine; on Christmas is not. It's the same as "on the weekend", or "on Easter", it's wrong.

I have never heard 'on Christmas' and would probably wince a bit if I did.
I don't know that it feels right being used in the same way as 'on Tuesday' as Christmas spans more than one day.
