Spanish speakers - what does 'colitas' mean in this context?

Hotel California

On a dark desert highway
Cool wind in my hair
Warm smell of colitas
Rising up through the air

Google translate says it means 'tails' or 'willies' Shock. So is the writer having a joke (smell of warm willies - noooo!) or is it eg. some sort of plant?

TIA

It's clamatis, the flower.

mrsruffallo · 05/09/2013 20:46

Sorry, it's spelt clemitis.

MirandaGoshawk · 05/09/2013 20:58

Ah, so clemitis is the Spanish name for clematis?

I've looked this up before and it apparently relates to cannibas. Mexican slang for cannibas plants or something like that.

NotAQueef · 05/09/2013 21:08

It refers to marijuana in this context

Info here

Colita is little tail - it refers to the tiny clippings (tail) of the marijuana bud

MirandaGoshawk · 05/09/2013 21:41

That would make sense Grin. In fact, that makes sense of a lot of the weird lyrics in that song!

Muchas gracias!
