Is it correct to use the word...

...'couth' to describe a place? I'd always thought of it in connection with manners/ behaviour but someone I know is in the habit of describing 'naice' places as 'couth'. It makes me cringe. Are they correct to use the word in this context??

I thought couth (which my iPhone is fighting hard not to let me type!) was a humorous back-derivation from uncouth but actually didn't exist?

But even then it surely describes manners/behaviour. A place can't be uncouth so it surely can't be couth!

I agree: "humorous" backformation of "uncouth" which is itself only used humorously or ironically.

And I think it could only describe a person and not a place anyway.
