Forgive me if this sounds silly, but can you tell me the correct way of writing (and spelling) lying in the context of;

'he was lying to her' and 'he was lying down'.

One of these doesn't look right to me and I can't seem to find the answer.

Im almost certain that they are both correct.

LeeCoakley · 24/11/2012 19:59

Honestly, they are both correct!

Notquite · 24/11/2012 20:01

While he was lying there, he decided to continue lying to her.

Yes, both correct.

While he was laid there would be WRONG AND HEINOUS AND STABWORTHY though.

TribbleWithoutaCause · 24/11/2012 20:19

Oh really?! Lord this has been bugging me for ages.

Thank you so much! Grin

Except that the song is right:

If I lay here, if I just lay here, would you lie with me and just forget the world?

Subjunctive and shit.

thenightsky · 24/11/2012 22:02

so should the song be 'if I just lie here'?
