I say 'he dived in to the pool'.
DH says 'he dove in to the pool'.

I'm right, aren't I?

Dived. You are correct.

i think either are ok. traditionally it was dove, but i think dived has become more common

thisisyesterday · 08/08/2012 10:29

hmm actually i might be lying, some googling reveals that dove may be the newer form

Ponders · 08/08/2012 10:31

dove is the US form, isn't it?

I think dived is still the proper word Wink

Americans (or some of them) use dove, Brits use dived.

Could be one of those Elizabethan use ages that stuck there, or a new variant, not sure.

\link{http://oxforddictionaries.com/definition/english/dive\Oxford dictionaries}

'past and past participle dived; US also dove' (with a phonetic thing to distinguish it from the bird)

Ponders · 08/08/2012 10:35

that dictionaries link is headed on google as Oxford Dictionaries (British & World English)

there's a separate one (as there needs to be Grin) for Oxford Dictionaries (US English)

Thank you all. I'll take that is 'dived' being the correct term because we are both British.
