"How" Words

Can someone explain this for me please?

Had a quick nosey around DD's form room a couple of weeks ago - she's going to be having registration in a language class. I was looking at the grammatical posters on the wall and one just didn't make sense to me. Perhaps you Pedants can help me out?

Title of poster was "How" Words. Underneath were words like:
very
not very
quite
incredibly
too
really
a bit

all with their translations alongside.

I don't get it. How are these "How" words?

To hazard a guess, 'how' you can do an action:

very carefully, not very quickly, quite well, incredibly well, too loud, really badly, a bit rashly.

Adverbs describing adverbs, apparently.

Ah! That makes sense. Thanks WMittens.

Is the title "How" Words the best way to describe them? DD can't get her head around it, and although it's only a small niggle, it's doing our nuts in!

"In what way" words?

Thanks Trills.

Hasn't your DD ever been taught the grammatical term "adverb"? That's surely the easiest way by far to describe them, isn't it?
