Please can someone tell me if this is grammatically correct. I seem to have a frozen brain and am not sure.

'I would like to thank you for your encouragement of Fred this year..'

many thanks

sounds okay to me? im normally quite anal and id accept that as okay!!

Abra1d · 06/07/2012 17:31

Just make sure you only have one period at the end.

yellowraincoat · 06/07/2012 17:32

I think "..thank you for encouraging Fred..." sounds less clumsy.

BleepingSooty · 06/07/2012 17:33

I would say '"I would like to thank you for encouraging Fred so much this year".

suburbandream · 06/07/2012 17:33

What yellowraincoat said

FriskyMare · 06/07/2012 17:34

Agree with yellowraincoat.. too many you/yours.

MirandaWest · 06/07/2012 17:34

I agree with yellowraincoat as well - does sound less clumsy.

Xenia · 06/07/2012 18:15

Yes, less is more. So I would always say - thank you for rather than I woudl like to thank you for... etc etc.

Geomancer · 13/07/2012 00:17

Agreed Xenia. My mother would go mad at a formulation like that, and usually say something like "Well if you would like to thank them, why not actually do so!"

CatWithKittens · 13/07/2012 11:18

I would say "Thank you very much for having encouraged Fred ...."

ImperialBlether · 28/07/2012 13:48

Yes, it sounds as though you're saying "I'd like to thank you for encouraging Fred but my husband won't let me."
