Can MN Towers put a big banner at the top of the weight loss threads saying Loose is when your trousers are falling down. You lose weight. You don't Loose it.

It makes me Angry

Lifeissweet for Prime Minister.Grin

nkf · 30/06/2012 08:55

I know. Me too. Really annoying.

Bluestocking · 30/06/2012 09:10

Sounds like you are about to Loose It big time!
I agree, it drives me mad too.

HumphreyCobbler · 30/06/2012 09:12

yes

and it is an invitation, not an invite

Whatevertheweather · 30/06/2012 09:13

Yes, yes exactly this. Makes me feel all knotty inside.

RackandRuin · 30/06/2012 09:15

There should be a big banner asking for posters to at least try to make threads original - isn't the lose/loose thing done at least 3 times a week?

Lifeissweet · 30/06/2012 09:16

It keep happening, though. When it stops happening, I will stop complaining. I'm not trying to be original, just venting.

And also on the relationships page to say that when you have counselling you receive advice when you are advised

Sorry Blush, as you were

puffyankles · 01/07/2012 11:18
Blush

tb, I always get the counselling thing mixed up with people who work for the council.

Passmethecrisps · 01/07/2012 11:22

Another vote from me. They don't look the same. There are so many other words which are easily confused but lose and loose are not amongst them. The 'advice' vs 'advise' is another one. Advice ends in 'ice' so that is how you say it.

Passmethecrisps · 01/07/2012 11:24

Oh, and puffy I was mortified recently to discover a drawer in my office labelled 'stationary'. I could argue that the drawer wasn't moving therefore was, in fact, stationary.

Can I add 'alot' to the list?

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 01/07/2012 15:01

'a slither of cheese' etc makes me FUME. It's a fucking SLIVER!

Northernexile · 01/07/2012 15:22

While we are at it affect/effect need to be added to the ever-growing list. Lose/loose pisses me right off too. I see 'loose' so often now that I actually started to doubt myself when typing 'lose' recently!

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 01/07/2012 15:51

YYYYYY to 'affect/effect'! And 'alot'. Forgot to reference that one.

Jux · 01/07/2012 16:35

All of these drive me mad. Luckily, dh and dd both tend to get them right so I don't need a meat cleaver....

DaisySteiner · 01/07/2012 16:37

DH wrote "loose" for "lose" recently. We very nearly did need councilling Wink

forehead · 01/07/2012 16:43

Don't forget practise/ practice.
Practise is the verb
The lose/ loose thing really annoys me.

CaliforniaLeaving · 02/07/2012 06:15

On one US board I read there are a few that get me. Lose and Loose is one, (I want tell them lose as in lost, loose as in you clothes are too loose.
Another is to, too and two. The other is Their and there.
I don't want to be the grammar police as I make my own mistakes and now I've been here a long time I wonder is I'm spelling US or UK sometimes.

sneezecakesmum · 09/07/2012 20:40

Not just on mumsnet...EVERYWHERE. FFS the Loose/lose idiocy really pisses me off. I can accept practise/practice - off/of - advice/advise and forgive those errors, but loose instead of lose drives me bonkers Angry Its unforgiveable!
