Is there a particular grammar bible or series of books where I can discover the joys of finding out what these particular terms mean?
I would love to become a fully fledged member of pedants' corner, but am really a bit crap at the technicalities.

I don't know what a dangling modifier is Blush apart from a pair of y-fronts

You can write without saying 'you was' or 'could of'. You're a member!

Having been a pedant for many years, there are a few books that might interest you.

If you can see what's wrong with that sentence then you've identified a dangling modifier!

It's the difference between 'the man I was referring to" (wrong) and 'the man to whom I was referring' (right). But it sounds so much more exciting. And bleak.
