Irregardless. It's a nonsense word.
Regardless = perfectly sensible word.
Irrespective = perfectly sensible word.
But marry them together --> Irregardless - WTF?

Have looked it up. Am not impressed - it is STUPID and should be BANNED.

I always thought it was a made up word.

DS (14) says it - but he likes to play with words so I thought it was one of his.

I have never heard it used, so it has not impacted on me, but going forward I will, like, totally embracify it Wink

It IS a made up word - I thought it was fairly recent but the online dictionary says it was in the early part of the 20th C in the USA - wow.

Must be up there with "I could care less" for how to turn sensible words/phrases into meaningless words/phrases.

xposted, timetosmile - glad it has never impacted on you, as opposed to "impacting" you Grin

Did I get it wrong?
I was aiming for the cringeworthy use which is not to do with either molars or asteroids! Wink

Well you still created a transitive verb out of a noun but it's more correct (if you're going to use it like that) to include a preposition as well; the worst use is to say "that has impacted my business greatly", which is just bollocks and suggests that their business has now got stuck up their arse (in my mind).

Maybe I'm just not sufficiently pedantic after all...
