This quote from Chris Evans has just made me scream at the radio.

Oh, and someone on R4 the other day described a person as being 'pressurised', but don't me started on that one!

Hmm

Chris Evan is a NOB. How I wish he was literally out of this world, then I could listen to radio 2 breakfast again.
My dad has just come back from the states and he tells me they trend there is to miss the ly from the end of adverbs.

inmysparetime · 20/03/2012 07:37

Was it pertaining to the international space station?
Many people don't know what "literally" means, and just use the word as a filler.

SardineQueen · 20/03/2012 07:46

I love these.

My mum gets my brother the "colemanballs" book from private eye every year and it is stuffed full of corkers.

SardineQueen · 20/03/2012 07:47

You should practice laughing rather than swearing Grin

SardineQueen · 20/03/2012 07:49

"Goalkeepers aren't born today until they're in their late twenties or thirties."
Kevin Keegan

snigger

"If you can't stand the heat in the dressing-room, get out of the kitchen"
Terry Venables

"....and so they have not been able to improve their 100% record."
Radio Commentator

"If history is going to repeat itself I should think we can expect the same thing again."
Terry Venables

snort snort

Can't find any "literally" ones at the moment but they are out there oh yes Grin

SardineQueen · 20/03/2012 07:51

Some racing chap or other:

"When the stalls open those horses are going to literally explode."

Grin Grin Grin

MrsWembley · 20/03/2012 07:55

I can picture it now.

BANG!

MrsWembley · 20/03/2012 08:53

Brilliant! And, by that, I really do mean enlightening.Grin

I must remember to send that link to Evans when I get to my laptop.

I have laughed so hard my sides literally split Wink

bigbuttons · 20/03/2012 13:48

Exploding horses!!!

I remember hearing on a radio station once a football supporter complaining post match that the ref really " got up his goat"
It made my eyes water

blackeyedsusan · 20/03/2012 20:05

There was a presenter on radio 4 who claimed that we do not need apostrophes. Does he not realise that he could get in trouble if, "Both the presenters wives were called Sarah" (literally)

MrsWembley · 20/03/2012 21:34

Oh, please name the presenter, please!

I'm already working on an email complaining about the continued use of 'pressurised' when referring to people. I can add it to that.Wink

SardineQueen · 20/03/2012 21:45

Well, technically we are all under pressure, which increases or decreases depending on whether we are in air or water, and what altitude/depth we are at.

Is that too pedantic?

wigglesrock · 20/03/2012 21:50

I hate this too - 150% Grin

MrsWembley · 20/03/2012 22:28

Thank-you, Sardine, for hoisting me off that high horse and setting me back down in a lower pressured atmosphere.GrinGrin

tribpot · 20/03/2012 22:38

I literally found the Oatmeal thing very amusing. The world needs more gayrollers: fact.

SardineQueen · 21/03/2012 09:58

ROFL @ depressurising mrswembley by invoking the top trump of pendantry - science pedantry Grin Grin

SardineQueen · 21/03/2012 09:58

FACT

SardineQueen · 21/03/2012 09:59

Love this thread Grin

MrsWembley · 21/03/2012 10:54

Actually, Sardine, I've just realised something. By setting me back down on the ground, you are, in fact, putting me in a position where I am under a higher pressure than the one that I was under on my (extremely) high horse.

Grin Grin

I don't want to be anywhere near your house when you next get in the bath.

You will be so pressurised you will literally explode!

PfftTheMagicDraco · 21/03/2012 19:49

Let's hope there isn't a gayroller in the vicinity!

blackeyedsusan · 21/03/2012 22:14

I wish I could remember which presenter. I was particulary annoyed, but feeling pressured by washing machine woes and not paying sufficient attention.
