I would LOVE to be "cordially incited". It sounds like a very polite exhortation to go rioting.

ThePieSmuggler · 07/02/2012 20:11

Um, I may be being dim but aren't they the same?

LeBOF · 07/02/2012 20:11

Start the whole thing again please, I'm lost Grin

SwedishEdith · 07/02/2012 20:11

Neither. No-one says "cordially" ever.

Greythorne · 07/02/2012 20:13

Fuck and double fuck

Ok

Here's the real question:

"you are most cordially invited..."

OR

"you are invited most cordially..."

More haste, less speed.

Calatalie, darling, why don't you smash that jeweller's window? You know you want to, and I'm sure they won't mind. No, please, after you, I insist.

That sort of thing?

yellowraincoat · 07/02/2012 20:15

"You are invited" - anything else sounds horribly non-U.

AgentProvocateur · 07/02/2012 20:15

You are cordially invited, although as someone upthread said, it's a bit old-fashioned. If it's a formal event I'd put "Blah-blah is delighted to invite you..."

CalatalieSisters · 07/02/2012 20:17

Thank you otter. I am delighted to accept your kind incitement.

Greythorne · 07/02/2012 20:20

Yellow

But I want it to sound a bit OTT

Don't care about the u / non u thing

I am very non u

But i don't want to make a grammatical error!

OP posts:
Greythorne · 07/02/2012 20:21

Oh, yes, I like the idea of cordially inciting someone!

OP posts:
nickelhasababy · 08/02/2012 13:27

you are cordially invited.

never most.

Greythorne · 08/02/2012 16:03

Ok
I have gone with 'you are cordially'

But why no 'most'?

OP posts:
nickelDorritt · 09/02/2012 11:11

cos that's not in the phrase!
Grin

GrimmaTheNome · 09/02/2012 11:14

But why no 'most'?
'cordially' is OTT enough. most cordially is OTT and down the other side again. Too much.

nickelDorritt · 09/02/2012 11:20

spot on Grimma Grin
