Bartering and haggling aren't the same thing

Are they?
If you try to get someone to reduce the price of something, isn't that haggling? I thought bartering was swapping one item for another. People seem to use 'barter' because it sounds a bit posher than haggle.

Or am I completely wrong? Because it's quite possible.

I thought the same as you but I'm too lazy busy to check.
I suppose you could haggle over a barter, by offering one chicken instead of two.

Or if someone had a table on sale for a bargain price of two chickens instead of three chickens, they could claim it their customers would be able to "save up to half price" :o

Good point, I hadn't thought of that Grin
