In store? In branch?
When did these stupid phrases become so commonplace in the English language?
Hearing Julie Walters on the Lloyds TSB ad inviting us to 'visit us in branch' really makes me want to smack her one. FFS she should know better.
Surely you'd say 'visit your local branch.'
Saying you can find something 'in store' - does that mean 'in the shop' or what? Are we suddenly American?
"Excuse me, do you have any Jelly Babies in store?"
"Yes, madam, we do."
"Well do you think you could fetch them from the 'store' and put them on the chuffing shelves?"
