I always thought Pleb' meant somewhat common but I've seen Pleb used a couple of times recently where the writer obviously doesn't mean common.

Does it have other meanings? or are they all wrong and I'm right?

Perhaps the writer doesn't understand the meaning? Plebeian: "of the masses".

They were the lower class in Greek or Roamn times weren't they? The plebiens?

so yes, i always thought it meant someone common or undereducated and proud of it.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plebs

Is this any use?

I saw one of the threads you refer to and I thought the OP had misused the word. I actually think it's quite derogatory and unpleasant.

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 08/12/2010 12:53

Pleb is short for plebeian, which comes from plebeius, the Roman commoners, as opposed to the patrician upper class (or the equestrian middle class). So you are correct.

it is a good word though and one i should use more often.
