DancingThroughLife · 07/12/2010 17:05

And people advi s e you when they give advi c e.

Thank you.

DancingThroughLife · 07/12/2010 17:05

And apparently you spell those words with spaces in Blush

BunnyLebowski · 07/12/2010 17:08

I once received an email at work from a very highly paid sales person advertising a 'Chester Draws' for sale.

Shock Shock

PureAsTheDrivenShow · 07/12/2010 17:08

Sometimes it's draws.

When dd draws on the freshly painted wall, I have an aneurysm. For example. But yes, I understand your frustration.

I'd like to tactfully point out that it's etc, not ect to anybody who is confused by the arrangement of the three letters.

5GoldenFimbos · 07/12/2010 17:10

Yes a child draws on paper (or walls even) but you put your smalls in a chest of drawers (or at least I do!).

PureAsTheDrivenShow · 07/12/2010 17:14

I don't have any 'smalls'. Grin

I thought I'd point it out just incase we have a repeat of the apostrophe problem ie sometimes a word needs an apostrophe before the s but I'm beggared if I know when so I'll just bung one in every time and hope for the best. It's wise to be absolutely clear I find. Otherwise, we'll end up with threads titled 'what's that toy that drawers shapes for you'.

takingchances · 07/12/2010 17:36

I work in an industry where we talk about drawers a lot but the majority of my (clever and well-educated - we're talking Ph.D's here) colleagues write "draw" on their charts/documents.
I put it down to the English accent. In Ireland we actually pronounce the letter r, so no one would ever make that mistake. Grin

SixtyFootDoll · 07/12/2010 17:44

I know of a Police Officer who wrote about a 'chester draws' in a burglary statement!

DuelingFanjo · 07/12/2010 17:46

I have seen chester draws on freecycle loads of times Grin

GrimmaTheNome · 07/12/2010 17:54

But in the BBC they used not to be allowed to say 'winter draw[er]s on' Grin

Can I also point out that people really shouldn't break their car. There's been a lot of it about in the bad weather threads recently.

Please brake it. I once saw this homophone error all through a motoring column in a newspaper (come to think it was the Guardian)

DuelingFanjo · 07/12/2010 19:24

Also it's fridge freezer, not frig freezer Grin

Yulephemia · 08/12/2010 12:19

Also you texted your friend, do not tell me you text them. Xmas Angry

poppyknot · 08/12/2010 12:21

I love chester draws Smile

poppyknot · 08/12/2010 12:23

I have just remembered that when I was little I used to get post lorders for my birthday. I didn't knoiw what a lorder was apart from the fact that it was money.........

Undutchable · 08/12/2010 12:25

Can I just say it's bated breath as in 'abated', not baited breathe.

But it doesn't really matter. Except to me.

GoldenGreen · 08/12/2010 12:30

"I'm not adverse to.." - you mean averse. Seen that one a lot lately.

WhyIsThatThenWithJingleBells · 08/12/2010 12:33

I read in a book that some pacifically asked for xyz.... that made me want to bleach my eyeballs.

5GoldenFimbos · 08/12/2010 14:06

Today's offering - "this is a lovely house in the much sort after area of Fimbo's town".

It's "sought" you silly estate agent person.

I am sure I make plenty of mistakes when I post here. It's not because I don't know the right word/spelling, it's because I type really quickly, whilst watching TV and thinking about other things. I don't proof read because it's a 'chat board' and I can't be arsed bothered.

I used to proof read (for money), but don't any more, I think I spent too much time on MN and thus don't 'see' the mistakes so much anymore! That's not to say I don't get the urge to correct some things - but I only ever do that to posters who are being complete wankers!

I'm sure most of the pedants would like to shoot me Grin

5GoldenFimbos · 08/12/2010 14:18

Me too ChippingIn, I don't venture into pendant's corner very often really. Xmas Grin

PigeonPie · 08/12/2010 14:35

Sorry DuelingFanjo, but 'refrigerator' doesn't have a 'd' in so I'm of the opinion that neither should 'frig. {smile]

HouseOfBambooootiful · 10/12/2010 23:22

Bumping for DRAWERS.

Thank you.

chippy47 · 10/12/2010 23:28

Never ever seen draws for drawers. Now Chester Draws was a genius comic creation of John thomson.

YourCallIsImportant · 10/12/2010 23:30

While we're on the subject... drawing doesn't have an 'r' in it. It is not pronounced 'drawring' ffs.
