ah

my mate calls them sangwiches

IMoveTheStars · 12/10/2010 17:35

Oh it gets worse... they were actually tune sandwhiches.

My sister calls them sandwitches, but that's OK, because she thinks she's being funny Confused

I call them sammitches. And I think I am being funny Grin

mrspear · 12/10/2010 17:37

ok how then?

TrillianAstra · 12/10/2010 17:38

I didn't think many people actively pronounced the difference between which and the -wich at the end of sandwich.

Which sandwich do you want?

Are they just emphasising the wich rather than the sand? Or is there an actual h in there?

coatgate · 12/10/2010 17:41

Mrspear, was that aimed at me? Wink

MardyBra · 12/10/2010 17:46

I don't think most people pronounce the "nd", making it "samwiches". The "w" is made at the front of the mouth and, if we are speaking colloquially, we tend to move the "nd" forwards in anticipation and it becomes "m".

Same thing with "hambag" (unless Lady Bracknell).

RandomMusings · 12/10/2010 17:49

yy hambag

I think "sangwiches", as mentioned above, is a west of Scotland thing too.

LittleCheesyPineappleOne · 13/10/2010 10:40

I'm W of Scotland, too. I am pretty sure I say "san-wiches" rather than "sam-" or "sang-" (the latter is weird - why?).

I'm so impressed with Euphemia with all the correct phonetic terms I have long forgotten.
