What are the rules for capitalising royal, king, queen etc.?
King Edward is in capitals because of the title, but the king's army is presumably with a small k?
Royal Navy is always capitals presumably?, what about royal barracks or royal docks or royal army?

seems to be capitals if you browse the website: www.royal.gov.uk/Home.aspx

I think it's basically the Queen and the Royal Such-and-such, but a queen amd a royal such-and-such.

The Queen, King, President, whatever if you are referring to a title that belongs to a particular person. Lower case when referring to a role that is not "owned" by a specific individual.

thanks TessOfTheBurbs, I think you are right. I think 'the' is specific and capital and 'a' is unspecific and not capital

Yes I think so claig. It's what I do when copy writing at work, although not normally about royals.

thanks, choufleur, that's a great help
