Well, the title says it all really.

Instead of the usual plastic tat, I have decided to opt for 1 activity book for DS's 6th party, in place of traditional party bags.

Would your DS/DD be pleased to receive on of these: www.thebookpeople.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10001_10051_183931_100_48117__category_ or www.thebookpeople.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10001_10051_138515_100_48117__category_ ? My plan was to wrap them individually and include small bag of chocs...

Please be honest.
Thanks.

If it is soon I would add a pack of world cup football stickers. Activity book plus chocolates (or a small pack of Haribos) is fine. I agree that it is good to avoid plastic tat. Ds's party (6) was this week and we did a pack of football stickers and small Lego creator set.

What a marvellous idea!

Don't think anyone does the bag of tat anymore really. Every party my children go to they get some sort of book or small toy and a piece of cake.

My son would have loved it when he was younger. We did the book people book sets a couple of times for his birthday. One set was the Dr Who books, which him & his friends all swapped as they finished reading them. I do think you need a small chocolate bar or something to go with it.
I would avoid the collectable stickers unless you know most of his friends already collect them. I hate it when my kids are given a pack of stickers (yes Mum - I mean you!) then they hassle me to keep buying them more stickers & the album.

Thanks, everyone! Glad to know I'm not completely barking up the wrong tree.

Was going to give cake too (probably over-decorated with garish icing) to take home. Is that too much? Should they eat cakes at party?

So many questions.....

They'd like it. They'd like the plastic tat too though TBH. Parachutes with little plastic men attached particularly popular here.

'If it is soon I would add a pack of world cup football stickers'

Won't that just make them (and their dads) cry?!

What a very nice idea!

Last year I gave a small soft toy rabbit to each child.

This year the girls got an H and M play dress and the boys got strippy t-shirts.

You have given me a fab idea for next year!

wigwam1973 · 27/06/2010 22:56

happy to oblige! Have to admit I got the idea from MN in the first place.....

Hadn't thought of that fortyplus . Ds seems oblivious to the fact that England lost today. He is more concerned about filling his sticker book before the WC is over.

I like the second one, not keen on the Horrid Henry ones and would probably smuggle it off DS but thats just personal choice (its the only character on TV that I really dont like).

We had a party invite recently where the venue had a huge tub of toys that the child could pick rather than a party bag. There were balls, dolls, tennis sets etc - I thought it was a great idea.
