What did you do for your child's 3rd birthday?

What fab parties have you been to celebrate a child's 3rd birthday?

I was lazy let them play in the garden, bought some little wooden trains for them to paint ( was Thomas party) and did pass the parcel. Luckily the weather was good so was all in the garden.

We did a safari treasure hunt and had all the kids running around the garden dressed up in costumes and some masks that we printed and coloured in as one of the games. They were roaring like lions and trumpeting like elephants it was so funny They had picture clues aswell so it was good for the younger ones.

You can get them in all sorts of themes do a search for safari treasure hunt on google.

A Thomas party would be good and I love the safari treasure hunt idea.

My boys (twins) went to a regular toddler music class and we had the teacher be the entertainer for the party. He brought his guitar and sang songs and played little games, they loved it and he kept them completely entertained for an hour. There were 9 children.

Pass the parcel is great for that age, especially if you have a prize in each layer (chocolate coin or similar)

Oh and bubbles, if they start looking bored get out the bubble machine!!!

At we didn't bother for any of them (in fact the youngest turned three just this week).

They honestly don't care, DD picked what she wanted for dinner, had a birthday cake and some lemonade.

She was as happy as she could be, anything more would have been a waste of time and money for a birthday that will not be remembered anyway.

Jaquelinehyde · 27/06/2010 20:01

At three* we didn't bother with any of them!

My DD chose her birthday party (painting pottery followed by an hour soft play). she decided on that at 2 1/2 and never wavered. This year, she has decided she wants a gymnastics party (for her 4th birthday), she has chosen the theme (Hello kitty plates) and decided the names of some of the people she wants to go. Her birthday isn't until November!!

Dc is very into parties and keeps asking if I'm going to his party and can he have a cake and presents at his party

I asked him today what he wanted at a party and he said balloons, presents and cake - that's easily sorted

Hi! I am just starting to plan too. Fear it's already out of hand! Doing it at a local city farm and thinking about getting a piñata. Dinosaur theme maybe. Will keep u posted.

Portofino · 28/06/2010 22:35

Never bothered til 4 when dd ASKED to gave a party. And then it was a small affair at home....

lifeinagoldfishbowl · 29/06/2010 09:06

I love the idea of doing it at a farm or zoo - everyone we know has membership but how do you make it a party if it's more or less everyone just going to the zoo together?

Dc has asked for a party and this will be a special party - without going into too much detail - so I definitely want to throw one

well my dd1 told me she wanted to dress up so I've been busy planning a fancy dress tea party with loads of yummy food, drinks, games, music ofcourse and prize for the best outfit lol that's for all her nursery friends I'm so glad there's only 10 and their parents are coming too the more hands the better I say lol.

Adair · 01/07/2010 20:21

balloons, cake, friends. That's what a party is to ds (nearly 2, sings happy birthday when he sees a cake) and dd 4.

jumpyjan · 01/07/2010 20:41

I think this is the age when kids really get into birthdays. We did a party with about 12-15 friends. Fancy dress, a couple of games, some crafty stuff but mostly kids just running around in circles.

It was great fun & as for the memories DD has started recalling events from when she was 2.5 so definitely worth the effort!

We did a Mr Men party for my sons third birthday. They played musical Mr Bumps, pin the smile on Mr Happy and they had a treasure hunt for Mr Men pictures which I'd hidden all over the house. Mr men books are quite cheap and so made good presents for pass the parcel and other prizes. I wouldn't do too many games at that age and keep them simple. Have lots of toys available or if you can be outside that would be great.
