has anyone held a build a bear party? if you have the cheapest £9 a head would that go down ok? or would the kids be expecting to clothe their bear as well? are there any discounts/vouchers about? is it worth the money? advice please.

Do you mean the build a bear parties you can do from home?

If so DD went to one where they stuffed a bear recorded a message, wrote a birth certificate etc and the only clothing was a plain white T-shirt that they decorated. The girls all loved it.

I think the Mum said that it was about £10 per head

Be my Bear was the home party. Not my sort of thing at all but DD and all the other girls apparently loved it.

Much better than the Build a Bear shop which (IMO) is a complete rip-off with extortionate prices

My friend did one for her dd and finished up spending more than she planned - went a strange shade of grey when bill was handed to her...

P.S But I shuold add, the children absolutely loved it!

I was stunned at the prices and thought that the kids really would like to clothe the bears as well. So rather than have a party I took DD and 3 of her friends to Build a Bear, not a party. I said to them £20 each and get ehat you want. So they all had a bear/dog/whatever and an outfit and hairbobbles or something.

The parties they have don't include food so the only thing they missed out on was a bit of singing. I took them to McDonalds afterwards.

it says on the website that you set the budget and they make sure that kids dont go over it.is this not what happens?
i like the idea of a home one but dd is adamant that it will be more exciting going to the shop.

Hi Frazzled, I did a really great build a bear as part of an arts and crafts party for dds 4th birthday party, we had lots of different stations all manned by family and friends.

We got all our stuff from an amazing lady, Nellie, her website is www.childrensartparties.co.uk and she was full of tips, the bears were gorgeous and Nellie emailed a bear birth certificate template, so they all filled in one of those, i bought t shirts and glitter glue pens, sequins etc from her as well and they all decorated a t shirt for the bear, also Nellie explained how to make waistcoats and skirts with no sewing involved so my mum made loads of those and neckties to decorate, we did denim waistcoats and they were fab. Nellie also described how to make funky fascinators from pipe cleaners, the kids and mums loved them, older kids could do necklaces even as the kits had beads in that we got with the bears.

We did decorating flowerpot kits and also the big white craft bags, v.easy as got everything from Nellie, DD already planning what to have for next year as they have really cool jewellery boxes etc. The party was a huge hit and the bears are all treasured still and it was in March, even the boys loved them.
