If your DC can't attend a party, do you still send a gift?

Just that really.

DD1 has recieved an invite from girl at a pre school she has just started this term and they'll be going to school together in September.

I know the mother to make polite small talk to outside preschool for the past few weeks.

We can't attend the party.

Would you normally send a gift? I'm thinking no? But some non attenders at DDs party earlier in the year sent gifts.

Don't want to look a loon!!

Not usually, but if it was a particularly close friend, I would send a small something.

Agree with Bramshott. Only send a gift if it's a good friend.

Oh no - unless very close - it could be setting yourself a very expensive precedent.

I do if it is either a very close friend or if we accept but have to cancel at the last minute through sickness or summat.

Precedent isn't an issue. The other children involved don't know if I have sent a present or not

Only if a bezzie mate otherwise no way!

Decision made!
