UK Christening present tradition?

My friend's daughter is being christened and I was invited to be the godmother. I was wondering if there's a tradition in the UK about what kind of present the godmother is supposed to give? Thanks!!

I don;t really think there's any traditions, other than silver things, but what might be nice to get are Premium Bonds as they reatian they're value and also could bring her in ££ that her parents could out into her Trust Find account

Depends how religious you or your friends are... My sister was Godmother to my ds and she gave him a leather bound bible. For girls I think a crucifix is a suitable religious present. If you wish to go the less religious route, jewellery is nice, perhaps something they can wear as adults (I was given a lovely silver bracelet with amythysts by my Godmother, my mum gave it to me properly on my 15th birthday - before then I could only wear it on very special occasions)

Thanks so much Valpollicella and HeadFairy! The suggestions are great and am relieved to know there is no fixed gift tradition. You mentioned a gemstone and that gave me the idea of looking for the one specific of her birthday. I'll look into buying a pretty silver bracelet or necklace, something that she can cherish and wear later on. Thanks again!
