What about some fruit too? grapes, strawberries or blueberries.

Are you providing snacks/food for the grown ups too?

sazzerbear · 14/05/2010 17:40

And don't stress too much over the sandwiches, they never get eaten!

Went to a party a while ago and the mum had done bread and butter, with those ice-cream sprinkles on instead of sandwiches. They went down very well!!

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 14/05/2010 17:51

Ah yes, fairy bread. I wouldn't bother with the fruit - extra choccie bics instead, after all a party should be all teh things you are not allowed at any other time!!

sazzerbear · 14/05/2010 19:37

I feel under so much pressure not to serve up anything too bad!!

Tis true the children never eat the sandwiches so would only do 1 small one each child.

I would do a plate of baby tomatoes, cucumber and carrot sticks, bowl of salt your own crisps (without the blue packet of salt added), bowl of grapes, strawberries, home made number 3 biscuits and decorated fairy cakes. They never really eat much.

These trays are good for stopping waste you can just put in a sandwich with a few of the above and have the biscuits and cakes after.

Pizza fingers tend to go down well (better than sandwiches, in my experience).

mankymummymoo · 15/05/2010 17:30

second the pizza option.

serve the pizza with the sandwiches first otherwise they'll just go for the biscuits/sweet stuff and you will end up with a bunch of sugar crazed monsters !

ruddynorah · 15/05/2010 17:36

pizza
garlic bread
hula hoops
mini hot dogs chopped up

pink wafers
jammy dodgers

fairy cakes with sweets on top

no sandwiches
no veg
no bread sticks.

ruddynorah · 15/05/2010 17:37

do people really give 3 yr olds organix?

sazzerbear · 20/05/2010 13:21

Well it's my DS's 2nd birthday on Sat and my food is almost identical:

Ham/Tuna Sandwiches (in my experience they always get eaten, poss by the older kids and/or parents!)
Mini sausages
Houmus/cherry toms/carrot sticks
Hula Hoops
Strawberries and Grapes
Fairy cake (that DD is making)

Pizza, nibbles and dips for the adults.

Sazzer, I think we all feel peer pressure to serve wholsome food at your childrens parties to make you look like a good mummy. But a few years down the line you end up bowing to the pressure from your children instead! I think people can be a bit precious sometimes. It's a party for gods sake, surely the best time to throw caution to the wind!!
